Tiled roof conservatory systems are one of the most beloved home improvement innovations of the past few decades.

Whilst conservatories themselves have been popular for a little while longer than that, they have struggled to shake off the connotations with chilly winters, condensation and scorching hot summers of use.

Tiled roof conservatories essentially eliminate these concerns, which explains why they are so popular, they allow you to use your extension and be comfortable with its temperature whatever the weather is doing.

However, to get the most out of any tiled roof conservatory, we’d always recommend bringing in a little daylight through a roof lantern or roof window. A roof lantern is a raised glazed structure that adds height and shape to your ceiling. A rooflight sits flat against the roof surface. Both flood your living space with natural light while your solid roof handles the warmth.

Tiled conservatory roof systems: The good

A tiled conservatory roof system replaces a tired glass roof or polycarbonate conservatory roof with a lightweight, fully insulated solid roof finished in attractive roof tiles. Over the past decade these roof replacements have become hugely popular across Surrey and Sussex, turning chilly add-on rooms into proper year-round spaces.

Leading thermal performance

Old polycarbonate roofs roast you on sunny days and freeze you in winter. Our tiled roof comes with premium honeycomb insulation, achieving exceptionally low U-values (the measure of heat loss). The result is better insulation, lower energy bills and a comfortable living space you can use however you like.

Increased home value

A tiled roof conservatory looks permanent and considered. That kind of finish lifts your property value, making the investment worthwhile if you ever come to sell.

Upgrade the look of your home

With a choice of colour including Charcoal, Slate and Oak, your new conservatory roof can match your existing tiles beautifully. The outside appearance feels intentional rather than tacked on.

Feels like a natural extension of the home

A plastered ceiling, solid walls and quiet comfort mean your conservatory finally feels like another room. Our tiled roofs also offer real noise reduction, calming the drumming of heavy rain and everyday noise pollution. We’ve even completed an installation in Surrey where the conservatory ended up being rented out as an additional bedroom for extra income!

How to fully maximise the potential of your tiled conservatory roof system

A solid tiled roof gives you warmth. The trick is keeping the brightness you loved about the original space. Here is how we do it.

Integrating roof lanterns

A roof lantern is a raised, glazed structure that sits proud of the roofline. Ours are glazed into an Anthracite Grey powder-coated aluminium thermally broken frame, with toughened safety glass and temperature-controlling glass that keeps rooms cool in direct sunlight. They create a sense of height, draw the eye upward and become a real centrepiece.

Choose roof lanterns if:

  • You want a striking architectural feature
  • You have a larger roof span
  • You would like extra ventilation and a feeling of space overhead
  • The top of your conservatory roof is flat
  • You want light from every angle

Integrating roof windows

Roof windows, or rooflights, sit flush with the tiles. They are low maintenance, energy efficient and allow plenty of daylight without altering the roofline. A simple wipe-down keeps them looking new.

Choose roof windows if:

  • You want a subtle modern look
  • You are working with a smaller area where a raised lantern would feel too bold
  • You want a more budget-friendly option

Do roof lanterns need building regulations approval?

In most cases you will not need planning permission for a roof lantern, provided it does not extend more than 150mm above the roof, sits below the highest part of the roof and your home is neither listed nor in a conservation area. Always check with your local council first.
